Youth Program
Overview
Our youth program works with BeyondHome kids to break the cycle of generational poverty by empowering them to reach their full potential and build confidence in navigating a complex world.
Core Youth Program Elements
After School Activities
-
Our after-school activities are age specific and are designed to create a space for BeyondHome kids to socialize, play, laugh, and unwind after the school day. Each age group meets at varying times/frequencies with an age specific environment built particularly for kids to settle into a safe community that allows them to try on new self management and interpersonal skills necessary for appropriate developmental gains.
Storyland
-
Storyland is a family centered event that takes place monthly. Specifically designed to encourage a comfortability with, and passion for, books and creativity, these events use the world of make believe to foster family connection.
Whiz Kids
-
BeyondHome is proud to be a Whiz Kids site. Whiz Kids is a partnering 501(c)3 organization that provides elementary and middle school aged students free tutoring with the goal of bridging the achievement gap.
Personal Development
-
Teaching children the hard and soft skills necessary to become a thriving, contributing adult is no easy task. BeyondHome has created several courses aimed at cultivating social, emotional, and developmental growth in BeyondHome kids. These courses include FightClub (a conflict resolution class for teens), Bounce Back (A resiliency course for elementary aged kids), and other miscellaneous courses such as leadership, college prep, and financial literacy.
Other Programmatic Features
-
Undercover HotShot | Children are exposed to various career opportunities and encouraged to foster their sense of ambition and creativity.
Summer Programming | Children are able to participate in a diverse range of activities from art and history exploration, to outdoor camp, field trips and museums.
Talent Show | Every year, our BeyondHome youth put on a youth led talent show to raise funds for the Youth Department. The youth leadership team (made up of a selected few 10-12 year olds) drives this initiative. They plan the event, write communications, and encourage community engagement.
